This is just about more than I can take in one day. Two different things have happened today that I NEVER thought I would see in my life.
The first was the news that George W. Bush, has actually taken responsibility for a mistake he made, even if he was kind of a pussy about it. He said today that, “to the extent the federal government didn't fully do its job right, I take responsibility.” There. Was that so hard. For such a “the buck stops anywhere else but here” kind of president, its refreshing to see a little accountability. I'm sure plummeting poll numbers had nothing to do with it.
The other thing regards Paul McCartney. His his solo work has been, over the years, a little inconsistent. To say the least. Not bad all the time mind you, just, iffy.
Well his new album is coming out and he has decided to, in his words, “make it stand out.” He doesn't come right out and say 90% of his catalog since 1970 has been weak crap, but when a guy like Paul, who has never been know for his small ego, says something like, “I decided to lay it on the line for myself and challenge myself and say, You're going to make a good album here,” he is also kind of saying, “Unlike the lst several I've made.” I guess it worked, at least a little, because it is getting really good reviews. 4 stars instead of 3 (a guy like Paul McCartney just gets 3 stars automatically. He could record himself reading the New York Times into the microphone for 45 minutes, and it would get 3 stars. Actually that sounds like a good idea, it would probably sell more copies than Flaming Pie did.)
So anyway, wow. What a day for candor. If we could only get Sting to admit that all his work since the Police broke up is crap, and get Kevin Smith to fess up to the cinematic disaster that was Jersey Girl, then we would REALLY be in business.
