Dear George Lucas

     Dear George Lucas,

I love Star Wars. I just need to say that up front. I saw A New Hope in July in of 1977 and I am very proud of that, even if I was three months old at the time. I reportedly crapped my pants, which is a grand compliment from a baby. That means I have loved it my entire life.

I also need to say before we move any further that I understand about episodes II and I. I often don’t agree with your chioces, but I understand. Your'e the boss. Despite any disappointment I may have about them, there are very nice parts in both movies, especially in episode two, and I appreciate your effort. You didn't have to make any of them, an I am thankful that you did.
I have seen all five, own them, and have been there with you for the entire journey, yours and mine. Just so you know.

I am happy to say that I am off to see Star Wars this weekend, and for the record, think it will be good.

But I am also hoping that it isn't lousy.

Is that too much to ask for? That it doesn't suck? I don't really think so. I have been waiting to see this particular movie for a VERY long time. Years and years and years and years. If there were ever a movie that was so nearly screw up proof, for me, this would be it. Honestly. I am almost guaranteed to like it, and I am willing to meet you half way. If it is good at all, then I am willing to overlook a lot of problems with all the other movies. I have made my peace with Ewoks, and can make my peace with Jar Jar in time.

I can make explanations for a lot of things, AND RECENTLY I HAVE HAD TO DO A GREAT DEAL OF EXPLAINING WHILE TRYING TO STAND UP FOR YOU, YOUR WORK, AND THE STORY I LOVE. If this movie is bad making explanations may become much more difficult to do. Just please let this not suck.

I appreciate your time Mr. Lucas, and again, thank you for everything you’ve given me over the years.

     Respectfully,

     Benjamin Phillips

PS: Congratulations on the huge opening weekend. I am happy I could do my part.
